The honest truth is that most of us are afraid of bending backward, even those who are very established in their yoga asana practice. Looking at our daily routines, we spend a lot of time moving forward. Therefore, it only makes sense to be hesitant about moving our bodies in the opposite direction.

Benefits of backbends are endless.
On a physical level backbends stimulate the central nervous system, boost immune system, realign and increase mobility in the spinal column, open the hips, strengthen and stretch the legs.

Other benefits include increasing the flow of blood, massaging the vital organs and glands as well as loosening the joints. Backbends boost energy levels and relieve tensions stored in the muscles. Mr. Iyengar has recommended backbends for curing depression. Psychologically, backbends teach us to be more patient with ourselves and offer valuable lessons such as discipline and care. On an energetic level backbends allow for deep heart opening.

This workshop is suitable for beginner to advanced students alike. We will dive into hip and shoulder opening asanas in preparation for backbending, as the hips and the shoulders play a very important role in successful backbending. Once the hips and shoulders are warmed up and opened, we will move through progressively deeper backbends, repeating them so that the spine opens in a safe, comfortable way.

Dive Into the Practice: Forward Bend, Twisting & Hamstring Strech Workshop (Saturday, March 26 at 4 PM – 6 PM)

Just as trees are stripped of their leaves in the fall, so too can we be stripped of all that is covering up our authentic selves—to let go of that which is no longer useful and go forward, to discover and unabashedly embrace what we truly feel passionate about. One of the ways we are able to bare our authentic selves is to move inward.

Forward bends are the pinnacle poses of self-reflection.
Practicing and finding comfort maintaining a forward bend takes time and patience. As you move into a forward bend, your head is last to go, finally bowing down toward the body or the floor, drawing your attention away from the busy world around you.

Twisting poses will help restore your spine’s natural range of motion, cleanse your organs, and stimulate circulation.

Hiking and Yoga Day at Al Shouf Cedar’s Reserve (Sunday, April 10 at 7:30 AM – 4 PM)

Join us in this 3 hrs long, moderate hike at the tantalizing, breathtaking Barouk Cedar’s Reserve. Take a unique breath from the heart of the mountain, and allow your body to immerse in the air particles of the cedars, while your mind experiences a peaceful state of nothingness and your soul delves in the enchantment of the beauty of mother Gaia…

We will arrive straight to the entrance of the reserve where a professional guide will be joining us for the tour, information and history of the Cedars. After moving through the basic path that is open for all visitors, we will drift into a special track with the guide where we will be climbing once and once walking down the trail till we reach a flat area where we will do a special Yoga practice taking a breath of life that equals a 100 normal daily breaths :))
