In today’s fast paced world, many of us have a hard time to relax. Many of us are aware that too much stress is not good… that it could lead to poor quality of sleep, shallow breathing, imbalanced eating habits, muscular tensions, inability to concentrate, racing thoughts; and still many are not able to relax.
Yoga offers many different tools for relaxation, one of them is YOGA NIDRA.
Yoga nidra is a systematic, simple method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation.
Nidra literally means sleep; during the practice, one appears to be asleep, but one remains aware because the consciousness is functioning at a deeper level of awareness.
Yoga nidra removes fatigue and invigorates the body.
The stresses and strains of daily life create tensions and these rob the mind of its serenity. Yoga nidra removes tensions and restores the elasticity of your mind.
Yoga Nidra is one of the main tools for the attainment of the yogic state of supreme peace and tranquility of mind.

The workshop (2hrs) starts with a lecture about yoga nidra, followed by physical & breathing practices to induce calmness, followed by the full practice of yoga nidra.
It is open to everybody, whether you are a novice or an avid practitioner.

I Bend So I Don’t Break! (Backbend & Hip-Opening Workshop) With Rita (Saturday, April 30 at 4 PM – 6 PM)

The honest truth is that most of us are afraid of bending backward, even those who are very established in their yoga asana practice. Looking at our daily routines, we spend a lot of time moving forward. Therefore, it only makes sense to be hesitant about moving our bodies in the opposite direction.

Benefits of backbends are endless.
On a physical level backbends stimulate the central nervous system, boost immune system, realign and increase mobility in the spinal column, open the hips, strengthen and stretch the legs.

Other benefits include increasing the flow of blood, massaging the vital organs and glands as well as loosening the joints. Backbends boost energy levels and relieve tensions stored in the muscles. Mr. Iyengar has recommended backbends for curing depression. Psychologically, backbends teach us to be more patient with ourselves and offer valuable lessons such as discipline and care. On an energetic level backbends allow for deep heart opening.

This workshop is suitable for beginner to advanced students alike. We will dive into hip and shoulder opening asanas in preparation for backbending, as the hips and the shoulders play a very important role in successful backbending. Once the hips and shoulders are warmed up and opened, we will move through progressively deeper backbends, repeating them so that the spine opens in a safe, comfortable way.

Dive Into the Practice: Forward Bend, Twisting & Hamstring Strech Workshop (Saturday, March 26 at 4 PM – 6 PM)

Just as trees are stripped of their leaves in the fall, so too can we be stripped of all that is covering up our authentic selves—to let go of that which is no longer useful and go forward, to discover and unabashedly embrace what we truly feel passionate about. One of the ways we are able to bare our authentic selves is to move inward.

Forward bends are the pinnacle poses of self-reflection.
Practicing and finding comfort maintaining a forward bend takes time and patience. As you move into a forward bend, your head is last to go, finally bowing down toward the body or the floor, drawing your attention away from the busy world around you.

Twisting poses will help restore your spine’s natural range of motion, cleanse your organs, and stimulate circulation.
