What most people refer to as simply “yoga” is actually Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga is a system of yoga introduced by Yogi Swatmarama, a yogic sage in the 15th century in India. This particular system of yoga is the most popular one, and it is from which several other Styles of Yoga originated from. The word “hatha” comes from the Sanskrit terms “ha” meaning “sun” and “tha” meaning “moon”. Thus, Hatha Yoga is known as the branch of Yoga that unites pairs of opposites referring to the positive (sun) and negative (moon) currents in the system.
Hatha Yoga tries to achieve balance between body and mind, as well as attempts to free the more subtle spiritual elements of the mind through physical poses or Asanas, Breathing Techniques or Pranayamas.
Asanas are various body positions designed to improve health and remove diseases in the physical, causal, and subtle bodies. The word “asana” is Sanskrit for “seat”, which refers not only to the physical position of the body but also to the position of the body in relation to divinity. The definition as per the father of yoga Patanjali clearly states that asana should be comfortable and steady poses. They were originally meant for Meditation, as the postures can make you feel relaxed for a long period of time. The regular practice of Asanas will grant the practitioner muscle flexibility and bone strength, as well as non-physical rewards such as the development of will power, concentration, and self-withdrawal.
- Pranayama is derived from the words “prana” (life-force or energy source) and “ayama” (to control). It is the science of breath control. This is an important part of Hatha Yoga because the yogis of old times believed that the secret to controlling one’s mind can be unlocked by controlling one’s breath. The practice of Pranayama can also help unleash the dormant energies inside our body.
The practice of Hatha Yoga can help you recognize your hidden physical and mental potentials. Through the continued performance of Asanas, you will gain flexibility and strength, and learn to be more relaxed under otherwise stressful situations. Hatha Yoga’s Relaxation Exercises will open the energy channels, which in turn allows spiritual energy to flow freely. Some Hatha yoga poses also massage and tone your internal organs, helping to prevent diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, and hypertension. They also bring balance to internal and glandular functions. Pranayama, on the other hand, can help manage asthma and bronchitis.
Hatha Yoga can also help you cope with stress, relieve tension, and deal with anxiety and depression. More importantly, it will help you put your mind in a focused state to prepare for Meditation and, eventually, the search for enlightenment.
This workshop includes the main ingredients for meditation:
1. A talk about meditation and its benefits
2. Scientific proof and research on meditation
3. Advanced breathing techniques
4. Special physical movement prior to meditating
5. An applicable program to practice at home
Realise a moment of regeneration, a moment in which you can again contact your lost vision or contact a new and greater vision, charge all your being and see your steps right on the patch of evolution and service.
In this workshop there is a greater opportunity to release many obstacles and hindrances in one’s nature.
No experience necessity, just an openness to learn and trust

Backbends can be quite emotionally and physically challenging. Backbends are also so healing partly because they reverse habitual motions (sedentary day to day activities such as texting, working on pc, etc..). They open up space, energize, and restore balance to our bodies and our lives.
I’M STIFF CAN’T BACKBEND!!!
BACKBENDS are for everyone! In this 2.5 hour workshop with Mayssam, you’ll learn how to use and integrate your muscles to keep you safe and strong in backbends.
Starting with simple actions, we’ll teach you the important but usually overlooked details on how to access the upper back and how to open the front of the body with care. Then we’ll build on these basics to take you deeper into your backbends. Much deeper than you ever expected.

Just as trees are stripped of their leaves in the fall, so too can we be stripped of all that is covering up our authentic selves—to let go of that which is no longer useful and go forward, to discover and unabashedly embrace what we truly feel passionate about. One of the ways we are able to bare our authentic selves is to move inward.
Forward bends are the pinnacle poses of self-reflection.
Practicing and finding comfort maintaining a forward bend takes time and patience. As you move into a forward bend, your head is last to go, finally bowing down toward the body or the floor, drawing your attention away from the busy world around you.
Stretching your hamstrings can increase flexibility and improve your range of motion in your joints. By strengthening and stretching your hamstring muscles you can achieve strong, limber thighs that will support the rest of your muscle groups, preventing injuries and improving your physical abilities.
